Operations Manager

Operations managers plan, direct and coordinate the operations of an organization and work to improve quality, productivity and efficiency.

Regardless of the type of industry or organization the main purpose of an operations manager is to plan and direct operations and improve productivity and efficiency. By managing day-to-day activities, analyzing statistics and reading and writing reports, operations managers play a vital role in any company. Operations managers also have to liaise and interact with other team members, including interacting with managers of different parts of the organization, presenting findings to stakeholders and higher management as well as training and supervising new employees and tracking and measuring staff performance. The methods and strategies used to achieve this vary from company to company but there are standard duties and accountabilities associated with ensuring the smooth operational procedures of the company.

Tasks may include:

  • Ensuring that the operation is performing against targets/budgets and managing all costs within the operation
  • Daily focus on operations to drive excellence and efficiency
  • Overseeing the accuracy and completeness of all paperwork and records completion of all relevant reports relating to the operations department.
  • Managing of all assets across the operation
  • Overseeing training and development requirements – conducting timely job chats, development and training records
  • Ensuring that the operation is consistently presented to a high level to promote a professional image to the customer
  • Ensuring that the branch operations, employees and products are safe and comply with safety standards.

  • have good judgement
  • work well with others
  • express ideas clearly in writing and in speech
  • be willing to continue education to keep up with the latest developments in the field.
