Railway Steward

A Railway Steward is responsible for ensuring that passengers on a train have a safe and comfortable journey. Their primary duties include assisting passengers with boarding and disembarking, providing information and directions, maintaining cleanliness and order on the train, and serving food and beverages.

Tasks:

Greet passengers as they board the train and help them find their seats.
Provide information to passengers regarding the journey, such as estimated arrival time and connecting trains.
Ensure that passengers are comfortable by adjusting temperature and lighting and providing blankets and pillows.
Maintain cleanliness and order on the train, including cleaning restrooms and disposing of trash.
Serve food and beverages to passengers, including taking orders, preparing food, and handling payment.
Respond to passenger requests and complaints and address any issues that arise during the journey.
Ensure that all safety protocols are followed, including checking tickets and securing luggage.
Assist passengers with disabilities or special needs, including providing assistance with boarding and disembarking.

Skills:

Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact with passengers and provide information.
Customer service skills to ensure that passengers have a pleasant journey.
Organisational skills to manage the flow of passengers and ensure that all tasks are completed in a timely manner.
Ability to work in a team and collaborate with other crew members.
Attention to detail to ensure that safety protocols are followed and that the train is clean and orderly.
Basic computer skills to process payments and access information about the journey.

Personal Requirements

A Railway Steward should have a friendly and outgoing personality to interact with passengers and make them feel welcome. They should also be patient and able to remain calm in stressful situations, as they may have to deal with difficult passengers or unexpected delays. Additionally, they should be adaptable and able to work in a fast-paced environment.

A Railway Steward plays an essential role in ensuring that passengers have a safe and comfortable journey on a train. They must have excellent communication and customer service skills, be organised and detail-oriented. While there are no specific educational requirements, Railway Stewards must undergo training to learn safety protocols and emergency procedures.
